Racial Discrimination meaning to mistreat someone by their race can happen anywhere and whenever around the earth. It can happen in any places like work, school, and even when you are walking on the streets. I think people discriminate other people thinking that they are more superior than the others. Racial discrimination can hurt a lot of people, so that is why it needs to stop.

Racial discrimination does exist to this day. It is a big issue. It happens around schools and work force. It costs a lot. Statistics show that in 2006, The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) received 27238 charges of racial discrimination, and they were able to resolve 25992 of those charges. The people who pressed those charges for being discriminated receieved $61.4 million in total (Racial/Color Discrimination). Race data from the census use your tax dollars for racial quota programs like race-based government contracting (The Government’s Interest in Racial Data is NOT in Your Interest). This clearly shows that racial discrimination really exists.

Case studies show that racial discrimination has harmful effects on health behaviors and mental illnesses. “Everyone is hurt by racism. Dehumanizing others can only happen if we shut down part of our own humanity. Maintaining a hateful attitude toward others is destructive to everyone” (Lesson on Discrimination Based on Race). Why do people discriminate other people when it only makes the other person unhappy? There was a situation in one school when one student was not accepted from taking a particular course because she was Chinese. There was also a situation when a dentist refused to accept people who weren’t Japanese. There was a Chinese person who lived overseas for a long time who wanted to work at a school and the school rejected her and said they will only accept Caucasians (Statistics on Racial Discrimination Enquiries). People who get affected by racial discrimination, often feel that they don’t fit in with the others because of their appearance, unless it is someone from their own race. They start being less interactive with other people and it might cause them to be alone a lot. If it goes on it can also ruin their future, because they won’t be able get along well with their colleagues, because they were used to being left out and being discriminated. It can cause them to be depressed. “Analyzing data from ISR's longitudinal National Survey of Black Americans, the researchers found that the experience of racial discrimination was linked to later psychological distress and depression” (The University of Michigan). Racial discrimination doesn’t only affect your feelings, but it also causes mental illness and health behaviors to your body.

Racial Discrimination has to stop in order to make our world a better place to live. People are getting hurt by it every. That is why we need to stop racial discrimination, and make the world a better place to live.
